Now What Do I Do?
"Now What Do I Do?" is an interactive game designed to help children develop awareness and the ability to make safe decisions when faced with difficult or potentially dangerous situations. The game's dynamic encourages participants to think critically and discuss possible solutions, promoting learning through situations close to real life.
How the game works:
Problem Situations: Each "situation" card represents a problem or challenge that a child might encounter in everyday life. These situations are designed to be easily understood and relevant to the age of the participants.
Reflection on Solutions: After reviewing the situation card, children are presented with three different "solution" cards. They must reflect on each option and decide which they think is the safest and most appropriate approach to the given situation.
Discussion and Evaluation: Once children have chosen a solution, there is an opportunity for group discussion. They can explain why they chose a particular solution, explore the consequences of each option, and, guided by the educator or parent, figure out which solution is the safest and why. This phase of the game is crucial because it provides an opportunity for collaborative learning and affirmation of personal safety concepts.
Good and Bad Secrets: With the "secrets" element, children learn that some information can be dangerous and should be shared with a trusted adult. This aspect of the game is essential to help children understand when it is important to speak up and seek help.
Educational benefits:
Critical Thinking: Children develop critical thinking by evaluating alternative solutions and the consequences of their actions.
Making Decisions: They learn the importance of making safe and thoughtful decisions in situations that could be risky.
Communication Skills: Play promotes discussion, helping children express their ideas and feelings and listen to others.
Safety Education: Children learn practical concepts of personal safety and the importance of sharing concerns or "secrets" with trusted adults.
Self-Esteem and Civic Courage: Through play, children gain confidence in their ability to handle difficult situations and learn the importance of acting responsibly.
"Now What Do I Do?" is thus a valuable tool for teaching children the life skills they need not only for their personal safety but also to become knowledgeable and responsible citizens.
