- ✅ Unit of measurement of volume in the SI: cubic meter (m3).
- ✅ 1 cubic meter corresponds to the volume of a cube with a side of 1 meter.
- ✅ Multiples and submultiples of the cubic meter are obtained by raising those of the meter to the third power.
- ✅ Each factor of 10 in length corresponds to 1000 in volume.
- ✅ 1 m3 is equivalent to 1000 cubic decimeters (dm3).
Full description
In the SI, the unit of volume is the cubic meter (m3), which is the volume of a cube with a side equal to 1 m.
The multiples and submultiples of the cubic meter are the cubes of the multiples and submultiples of the meter, keeping in mind that each factor 10 in length corresponds to a factor 1000 in volume. If a meter consists of ten decimeters (Figure 10), then
1 m3 = 1 m × 1 m × 1 m = 10 dm × 10 dm × 10 dm = 1000 dm3
So if
1 m = 10 dm
then
1 m3 = 1000 dm3
