It is a Basic Operational Guide to respond to the current Act 170 on DSA and its implementing guidelines. It is intended for teachers to create an optimal system for the growth and learning of children and young people with ASDs. The volume guides the reading of DSAs to answer three key questions:

What is necessary to know about ASDs in order to understand how they manifest, what cognitive styles are preferred, and what strategies are best to adopt?
How to proceed and with what compensatory tools, without fearing or conversely enhancing the use of technologies, but valuing their peculiarities?
What to do in the classroom in the teaching of reading, writing, mathematics, foreign languages and during testing to help learners acquire a study method on a path toward autonomy?

The distinctive elements of the guide
The volume is characterized by its methodological layout, which is divided into modular, self-supporting sections distinguishable by purpose and identifiable graphically.

Section 1: 'Knowing to Intervene'. Describes the characteristics of ASDs, through a reading of their cognitive and learning styles, the most suitable teaching strategies, and the appropriate social and environmental context.
Section 2: 'How To'. A 'toolbox' showing possible compensatory tools, dispensatory measures, as well as preventive assessment pathways, reinforcement activities and personalized teaching plans (material is on the CD).
Section 3: 'What to do'. Contains tools and strategies declined and contextualized in the different areas: reading, writing, math, foreign language and study method. A specific chapter is devoted to testing and assessment methods. Each area analyzed is full of practical examples and operational proposals.
Section 4: 'Operational sheets for teachers and pupils'. 70 worksheets in the different areas (reading, writing, arithmetic, geometry, English, study subjects), can be immediately used, but at the same time serve as reference models to be personalized, in fact, they contain useful indications to be able to build and/or adapt them in an individualized teaching perspective.
Section 5 - Annex: a series of useful resources for the teacher on planning tools, assessment and a preview of some compensatory materials extracted from the more than 50 on the CD.

The CD
The guide is complemented by a CD full of educational and informational resources.

It is a useful support for:
consult the legislation on DSAs,
print the teacher and student sheets in the volume,
view examples for completing the Personalized Education Plan.

The CD is also an expansion of the guidebook and thus an effective support from an educational perspective because it contains more than 50 compensatory tables and maps articulated in the different areas (reading, writing, arithmetic, geometry, English, study subjects). Each compensatory table and map is:
accompanied by an instruction sheet for the teacher indicating its usefulness and functionality,
available in a digital version with specific software that allows on-screen reading and customization of display formats.
