Book Understanding Text with Temporal Sequences
Text comprehension is a complex process involving multiple skills, including: linguistic competence, attentional capacity, working memory, and spatial, sequential and temporal organization. The aim of the book is to strengthen these aspects, especially helping children who have difficulty in being able to place situations and events in a logical and sequential order.
The book presents 20 short stories inspired by everyday life and arranged in order of increasing complexity. At the end of each passage is an area devoted to comprehension activities, in which the child
- is asked to reconstruct the story by sequencing the events represented in pictures;
- must reconstruct the story by putting the various sequences, represented this time by sentences, in the correct order;
- must understand whether the statements regarding the story he has just read are true or not;
- must complete the passage from which some words have been removed (cloze);
- must describe, first in writing then orally, each sequence of the story depicted in the picture and propose his own reworking of the text.
Color vignettes of the sequences of the 20 stories complete the book; this cut-out material is a valuable aid to support and implement the activities.
Understanding the Text with Time Sequences can be used as an operational workbook by elementary school teachers and parents or as a rehabilitative tool by support teachers, speech therapists and educators working on the recovery of oral and written comprehension and expression difficulties in children aged 6 to 8.
