The Rewards Case
Discovering the City of Progress. A briefcase to help teachers structure and manage pupils' behaviors, which depend on many factors: motivation, ability to control emotions, and how the teacher addresses him or her.
Based on the principles of the token economy, it helps the teacher better structure his or her intervention, thanks to a set of ready-to-use tools such as a rulebook and contract, a colorful and washable board, and lots of stickers.
"Token economy" is essentially based on two concepts: 1) anything the teacher can do before a learner's behavior (set and communicate clear, personalized, and reasonable goals). 2) anything the teacher can do after a learner's behavior (reinforce it when it is correct, punish it when it is not). The token is a symbolic reinforcer that signals that a child has achieved his or her small goal. If the child behaves well, he will earn a token. If he behaves badly, he will lose it.
The goals set should be clear, reasonable and individualized, and tokens should not be managed in a competitive mode among pupils. Winning must be cooperative.
