Humana 2 enriched with prebiotics promotes the growth of "good" intestinal flora. The investigation was conducted on a substantial number of healthy infants aged between 4 and 6 months. The purpose was to evaluate the effects of a specific diet on the qualitative-quantitative composition of gut flora. The second aim was to evaluate the effects of galactooligosaccharide supplementation of our follow-on milk on the intestinal absorption of some important minerals (calcium, iron, phosphorus). One group of infants was fed Humana 2, the second group was fed Humana 2 enriched with prebiotics.

Preliminary results have shown that the addition of galactooligosaccharides confers bifidogenic properties to the food, that is, it allows the development of a gut flora richer in bifidus bacteria, the bacteria characteristic of the gut of the breast-fed infant. Analyses regarding mineral absorption are ongoing.
